Darumask
In the hope that the world will recover from the gloom caused by COVID, I designed a mask with a motif of "Daruma", which has meaning of getting up no matter how many times you fall, like the Japanese proverb, "Seven falls, eight rises  =  七転び八起き ".  Since also "Daruma" is a symbol of good health from ancient Japan, I use it with the hope that people will stay healthy. For graphic pattern, I conducted color studies and design research, aiming to make the people fun and cheerful when they use mask.

DARUMA + MASK = DARUMASK

The flamboyant pattern on the reverse side was inspired by Japanese traditional haori. The masks are dyed by KYOTO KAKISHIBU using the traditional Kyoto method of "Persimmon tannin dyeing". "Persimmon tannin dye" is a traditional natural dye that has been used for more than 1,000 years to improve the durability of houses, household utensils, clothing, and arts and crafts, and has an amazing variety of benefits such as waterproofing, mothproofing, antiseptic, and deodorizing. Each mask is carefully dyed and made by hand by artisans, and through more than a hundred trial and error processes, I created a design that is meticulously detailed to fit any face.
